Download All or Part of the Free xyAlgebra 7.01 Package Below.

All xyAlgebra programs require Windows (XP, Vista, 7, or 8). They will run on Microsoft’s upcoming Surface Pro computer (due early in 2013) and on new Windows 8 machines from other manufacturers.  However, they will NOT run on Microsoft’s new Surface RT tablet, which inexplicably runs only Microsoft’s new “apps.”

IF YOU DON'T READ DOCUMENTATION:
  1. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED: install the programs below in the default locations!
  2. CONFIGURE student programs BEFORE students use them!
  3. See the xyManager Help File, which opens when you first run xyManager 7.01.

Before downloading, please send an e-mail to  xy.userlist.987@mindspring.com  so you can be informed of new releases, critical issues and possible problems.  Use a subject line such as “Downloading xyAlgebra” so your message is not treated as spam.  You will receive a maximum of 3 emails per year.

Windows Security Note:  When running the installers below, you may need to override Windows’ objections.  For example, Windows 8’s SmartScreen may force you to click “More Info” and then “Install Anyway.”  I do not have Microsoft’s imprimatur.  But I would not risk my reputation of 30 years by knowingly providingly unsafe software.  My own security program initially warns me, but then, after a few seconds of analysis. it concludes that the software is safe..  If you or your security software can’t trust me on this, please visit one of my exhibit booths, listed on the Author page, or e-mail me (see Author) and ask me whatever you like as confirmation.

Programs Available For Download (All Completely Free):
Click the “Download” links below and “Run” the installer immediately or “Save” it in your Downloads Folder to be run later.  Note that these three programs are fully compatible with each other despite the revised xyAlgebra version number.  See Update 7.01 for details.

Instructor Program: xyManager 7.0.   Download xyManager 7.0 Installer.
Instructors use xyManager 7.0 to configure the student programs and to monitor each student’s progress.  If students use xyAlgebra and xySolver for homework only, then xyManager helps to decide exactly which items to assign each day or for each topic..  This program includes a large Help File that should answer most instructors’ questions.

Students use xyAlgebra 7.01 to learn Algebra I, from signed numbers and polynomials, factoring and rational expressions, through linear and quadratic equations.  Sample problems are routinely available, and all multiple-step problems feature xyAlgebra’s intelligent help at every step.  See Syllabus.

Student Program: xySolver 7.0.   Download xySolver 7.0 Installer.
Students use xySolver 7.0 to learn to solve verbal problems, by declaring variables and setting up and solving linear equations or systems of linear equations.    Sample problems are routinely available, and all problems feature xySolver’s intelligent help at every step.  See Syllabus.

For the technically inclined:  Download NextStepDemo 0.98 Installer.
This demo of the new xyAlgebra Next Step Solution Generator and Equivalence Checker allows anyone interested to play around with the routines that set xyAlgebra apart from most algebra software.  After a few minutes of teaching you how to use the demo, it then allows you to choose from among suggested problems, or enter your own, and then try different solution methods and ask for a hint or a suggested next step at any point. You can also change the solution parameters and thereby determine how ambitious (or how smart) the solution generator should be, whether it should expand or factor expressions, use the substitution or addition method for solving linear systems, etc.  Please contact the Author for more information.
